“The Roar of the Butterflies” is a drama series set between 1930 and the day of Rafael Leónidas Trujillo’s assassination (El Chivo) in 1961. Trujillo was one of the most grotesque tyrants of the 20th century, known for controlling the people through orchestrated murders from his position of power, violence and gender-based abuses, artistic and sporting spectacles, and absolute control over the media. However, only a few brave individuals dared to risk their lives to confront him, among them Minerva Mirabal, nicknamed The Butterfly. She was a unique, cultured, and committed woman whose short life and tragic end hastened the downfall of the “Chivo’s” regime.
